what's the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Psychologists either have a doctorate in psychology or education, are specially trained in providing talk therapy, and are able to diagnose and provide psychotherapy.

Psychiatrists have a medical degree and are trained in prescribing psychiatric medications. Some psychiatrists seek additional training and are able to provide therapy as well.

how many sessions will i need?

Clients typically start feeling relief as soon as the first session. Sometimes, clients feel worse before they feel better as we work through trauma and difficult past experiences. Depending on your concerns and goals, you may need only a handful of sessions, or many years of therapy, and while your therapist will guide you, treatment duration is ultimately your decision. Throughout our work, we will continually evaluate and discuss what’s right for you.

is therapy confidential?

Mostly. There are some exceptions that will be covered in detail during our first session. If you’re using insurance, your insurance company will have access to your diagnosis, treatment plan, progress, and session records.

how long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes unless you’re using insurance, in which case, they are 45 minutes.
